Everything hangs in the balance, and nothing is certain: Rachel has been kidnapped by enemy forces and is being taken to Rowansmark while Logan, imprisoned and awaiting trial, is unable to leave Lankenshire. Separated from each other and their Baalboden comrades, each must find a way to achieve what they desperately want: to rid their world once and for all of the Commander and the tech that controls the deadly Cursed One.

Fighting through her pain and embracing the warrior she’s become, Rachel will do whatever it takes to escape her enemies’ clutches and join Logan in his fight. But when she learns a secret that changes everything, she realizes that escaping Ian and his tracker friends is no longer an option if she wants to save the people she loves. Instead, she’ll have to destroy Rowansmark from the inside out—if she can survive the journey through the Wasteland.

Logan needs allies if he wants to thwart Rowansmark’s power grab and rescue Rachel. But securing allies will mean betraying his beliefs and enlisting the help of the man he hates more than anyone: Commander Jason Chase. Driven by his fierce love for Rachel and his determination to make their world safe, Logan may be just the weapon the city-states need to defeat the Cursed One.

But as Rowansmark bears down and uneasy alliances are tested, will Rachel and Logan’s love for each other be enough to surmount the unbelievable odds against them?

Quote 2:

The Demon Trapper’s Daughter

The Demon Trapper's Daughter (The Demon Trappers, #1)

The Demon Trapper’s Daughter (The Demon Trappers #1)

by Jana Oliver

Book Synopsis (Goodreads):

Riley Blackthorne just needs a chance to prove herself—and that’s exactly what the demons are counting on…

Seventeen-year-old Riley, the only daughter of legendary Demon Trapper, Paul Blackthorne, has always dreamed of following in her father’s footsteps. The good news is, with human society seriously disrupted by economic upheaval and Lucifer increasing the number of demons in all major cities, Atlanta’s local Trappers’ Guild needs all the help they can get—even from a girl. When she’s not keeping up with her homework or trying to manage her growing crush on fellow apprentice, Simon, Riley’s out saving distressed citizens from foul-mouthed little devils – Grade One Hellspawn only, of course, per the strict rules of the Guild. Life’s about as normal as can be for the average demon-trapping teen.

But then a Grade Five Geo-Fiend crashes Riley’s routine assignment at a library, jeopardizing her life and her chosen livelihood. And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, sudden tragedy strikes the Trappers’ Guild, spinning Riley down a more dangerous path than she ever could have imagined. As her whole world crashes down around her, who can Riley trust with her heart—and her life?

Book Quotes:

“’What did ya learn from this dumbass stunt?’

Here’s where she was supposed to apologize, promise to be a good little girl and never do anything like this again.

Screw that.

Riley locked eyes with him. ‘I learned that the Holy Water better be fresh, that I need practice throwing the spheres, and that someone has to watch my back so asshats don’t steal my demons.”

― Jana Oliver, The Demon Trapper’s Daughter

“I’ll be there for ya, girl. No matter what.”

Beck took a deep breath and released it slowly. He had to stay strong for her, make the tough decisions. It was best that Paul’s daughter never know how he felt about her. There’d be less hurt that way, for both of them.

Just keep her safe, God. I can settle for that.

― Jana Oliver, The Demon Trapper’s Daughter

“Hell is empty, and all the devils are here- William Shakespeare”

― Jana Oliver, The Demon Trapper’s Daughter

My Thoughts:

This book, and the entire series, is one of my favorites! It’s filled with action, demons, humor, and one of the best love stories ever that develops over the ENTIRE series. It’s amazingly done. Riley is great main character, that has flaws and makes mistakes, but is strong and has the strength to keep going even when the world seems to turn against her. Beck is a major hick that takes on the role of her protector and is her dad’s closest friend (he’s only a few years older than her). There’s so much to this book, you’ve got to check it out! Add The Demon Trapper’s Daughter to your goodreads!!!!

Quote 1:

“I leap out of bed, heart pounding.  This must be a joke.  A prank.  It can’t be real.

Can it?

If this is a joke, it’s the worst kind.  Because I’d do anything to save Cody’s life.  And this device — this woman — just told me there’s a way. Did my dad listen to this? My mom?  Do they know what she said?  If they did and they thought there was even a possibility of its being true, why would they ever try to destroy it?

Victoria Scott, Fire & Flood

Quote 2:

“When I first saw the sand, I thought it was beautiful. Like maybe it’d be fun to just roll around in and make sand angels. Now I know the truth, that sand is actually the love child of proud parents Marie Antoinette and Joseph Stalin.”

Book quotes:

“He pulls me to a stop in front of a stall selling steaming hot stew of beef an onions. “Two please.”
“It’s too expensive,” I whisper to him, even though I know he won’t listen.
he treats me one of his wide, gentle smiles, his dark eyes shining. “Who else am I going to spend my money on? I already know you won’t let me buy you and of the pretty, frilly things girls your age like to have, and I’m not about to purchase another weapon to add to your collection.”
“Because I don’t like pretty, frilly things. And there’s nothing wrong with having a nice collection of weapons.”

“Besides, what do I know about being a wife? There are much more important qualities to have than a docile disposition.”

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles)

Book Synopsis (Goodreads):

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl.

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

Some quotes that interested me:

“Vanity is a factor, but it is more a question of control. It is easier to trick others into perceiving you as beautiful if you can convince yourself you are beautiful. But mirrors have an uncanny way of telling the truth.”
― Marissa MeyerCinder

“Clearing his throat, Kai murmured, “You have no idea how to dance, do you?”
Cinder fixed her gaze on him, mind still reeling. “I’m a mechanic.”
His eyebrows raised mockingly. “Believe me, I noticed. Are those grease stains on the gloves I gave you?”
― Marissa MeyerCinder

My opinion:

Although this book has some mixed reviews, I always enjoy an interesting mix of a children’s tale. This book is based off of Cinderella and is said to have a ‘Sailor Moon-esque’ vibe, which I’ve enjoyed since childhood. From the quotes provided on Goodreads, I can already tell that the author has a great sense of humor and sarcasm.

She is Princess Lia, seventeen, First Daughter of the House of Morrighan.

Deceptions swirl and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—secrets that may unravel her world—even as she feels herself falling in love.

Quote 1:

“A six-inch blade. I smiled. Did he buy it? It was actually just shy of four—but very nicely weighted—and as Aunt Bernice noted, a little exaggeration was always expected when describing weapons, victories, and body parts.”
Mary E. Pearson, The Kiss of Deception

Quote 2:

“Yes, there’s always magic,” I said, cynicism heavy on my tongue.
She placed my bandaged hands back in my lap. “All ways belong to the world. What is magic but what we don’t yet understand? Like the sign of the vine and lion you carry?”
“You know about that?”
“Natiya told me.”
I signed and shook my head. “That wasn’t magic. Only the work of careless artisans, dyes that were too strong, and my end-less bad fortune.”
Her old face wrinkled with a grin. “Maybe.” She picked up her pail of medicinal water and stood. “But remember, child, we may all have our own story and destiny, and sometimes our seemingly bad fortune, but we’re all part of a greater story too. One that transcends the soil, the wind, time…even our own tears.” She reached down and wiped under my eye with her thumb. “Greater stories will have their way.”
