Quote 1:
“Her dad’s voice boomed from inside the house. “I’ve got a Glock, a shovel, and five acres of woods, Johnson!”
Melissa Landers, Alienated
Quote 2:
“To be honest, I don’t know what qualities you ever saw in him. I can tell why he chose you, but-”
“Oh yeah?” Cara’s spirits lifted as she sensed a compliment coming on. “Why do you think he chose me?”
“It’s obvious.” He swept a hand to indicate her loose curls. “Your long, shiny hair, healthy skin, and bright eyes show that you’re well-nourished.”
“Uh, thank you?”
“I’m not finished.”
“Go on then.”
“You’re clearly intelligent.” Then he felt the need to add, “For a human.”
“Gee. That’s so sweet.”
“But Eric was probably most attracted to your wait-to-hip ratio.” For a split second, Aelyx resembled a human boy as he leaned back and peered at her caboose. “Hips of that width are likely to pass life offspring without complication.”
Cara nearly swallowed her own tongue. She didn’t have big hips did she?”

After The End Teaser

13601681

Book Synopsis:

After the End (After the End #1)

by Amy Plum (Goodreads Author)

She’s searching for answers to her past. They’re hunting her to save their future.

World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They’ve survived for the last thirty years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from whoever else might still be out there.

At least, this is what Juneau has been told her entire life.

When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact. Everything was a lie.

Now Juneau is adrift in a modern-day world she never knew existed. But while she’s trying to find a way to rescue her friends and family, someone else is looking for her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about the secrets of her past.

Quote one:

Beckett and Neruda begin to growl, the fur on their backs bristling.  I unclip them, and they race for our yurt.  They disappear through the flaps and are back out a second later, puffing and barking frantically  As they begin sniffing around the empty camp, I plunge through our entrance to see my father’s desk knocked upside down and his books and papers scattered over the floor.

He’s gone.  My heart stops, and then as I look down at the ground it slams hard against my ribs, forcing a cry from my throat.  In the soft dirt floor, in my father’s careful block lettering, is written: JUNEAU, RUN!

Quote two:

Then my gaze lowers and the world slams to a stop.  I manage to keep my knees locked for a moment but then crumple to the ground.  I can’t breathe.  I can’t think.  I can’t do anything but kneel in the now and look at the impossible.

Beneath me lies a city.  It is not in ruins.  It isn’t decimated by war and poisoned by radiation.  It is a thriving city with massive glass buildings glistening in the late-afternoon sun.  People–not dangerous brigands, but normal-looking people–are walking down its streets.  Cars that look brand-new–more rounded than the ones in the EB–are driving down the roads and are parked along their sides.  This is not a postapocalyptic wasteland.  Where am I?  What is going on?

The Burning Sky Teaser!

The Burning Sky (The Elemental Trilogy, #1)

“You can live forever for me.”

“I live for you, and you alone.”

  Sherry Thomas, The Burning Sky

Excerpt:

Did this mean he was about to tell her something he wouldn’t normally? Her ears perked—figuratively, since her ears were now feather-covered holes in the sides of her head.

He laughed softly. “You know, you are almost enjoyable to talk to, when you do not say anything back.”
She willed the water in the tub to strike him in the face.
There was a loud splash. “Hey!” He sounded surprised, but not unpleasantly so. “Interesting. You are still capable of elemental powers. But stop—or I will feed you to the castle cats.”
She struck him again.

I am so excited to read this book! I purchased it from the Spark a Reaction YA Panel! Sherry Thomas seems like such a talent and awesome author! The sequel to The Burning Sky is called The Perilous Sea and will be released September 16th! So definitely read The Burning Sky before then! Check out the book synopsis below!

Book Synopsis (Goodreads):

Iolanthe Seabourne is the greatest elemental mage of her generation—or so she’s being told. The one prophesied for years to be the savior of The Realm. It is her duty and destiny to face and defeat the Bane, the greatest mage tyrant the world has ever known. A suicide task for anyone let alone a sixteen-year-old girl with no training, facing a prophecy that foretells a fiery clash to the death.

Prince Titus of Elberon has sworn to protect Iolanthe at all costs but he’s also a powerful mage committed to obliterating the Bane to avenge the death of his family—even if he must sacrifice both Iolanthe and himself to achieve his goal.

But Titus makes the terrifying mistake of falling in love with the girl who should have been only a means to an end. Now, with the servants of the Bane closing in, he must choose between his mission and her life.

Doesn’t this book just sound AMAZING?!?! As Sherry Thomas said “it’s like Harry Potter but with cross dressing!” (Spark a Reaction YA Panel, July 10th 2011)

The Taking Teaser

Book Synopsis:

The Taking (The Taking #1)

by Kimberly Derting (Goodreads Author)

A flash of white light . . . and then . . . nothing. When sixteen-year-old Kyra Agnew wakes up behind a Dumpster at the Gas ’n’ Sip, she has no memory of how she got there. With a terrible headache and a major case of déjà vu, she heads home only to discover that five years have passed . . . yet she hasn’t aged a day. Everything else about Kyra’s old life is different. Her parents are divorced, her boyfriend, Austin, is in college and dating her best friend, and her dad has changed from an uptight neat-freak to a drunken conspiracy theorist who blames her five-year disappearance on little green men.

Confused and lost, Kyra isn’t sure how to move forward unless she uncovers the truth. With Austin gone, she turns to Tyler, Austin’s annoying kid brother, who is now seventeen and who she has a sudden undeniable attraction to. As Tyler and Kyra retrace her steps from the fateful night of her disappearance, they discover strange phenomena that no one can explain, and they begin to wonder if Kyra’s father is not as crazy as he seems. There are others like her who have been taken . . . and returned. Kyra races to find an explanation and reclaim the life she once had, but what if the life she wants back is not her own?

Quote one:

This was Tyler Wahl.  Tyler, who looked far too much like his older brother-my seventeen-year-old boyfriend-in looks, in stature…and, most of all, in age.

Tyler, who the last time I’d seen him just the day before, had been only twelve years old.

Quote two:

My eyes lifted.  “Is that what you were trying to do, impress me?”

There was a beat, a moment in which our eyes met and my heart leaped, and then his voice dropped, feathering my skin and making me shiver.  “Of course I am, Kyra.  I was sort of hoping you understood that.”

Sinner Teaser

Front Cover

Book Synopsis:

Sinner (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #3.5)

by Maggie Stiefvater (Goodreads Author)

A standalone companion book to the internationally bestselling Shiver Trilogy.

Sinner follows Cole St. Clair, a pivotal character from the #1 New York Times bestselling Shiver Trilogy. Everybody thinks they know Cole’s story. Stardom. Addiction. Downfall. Disappearance. But only a few people know Cole’s darkest secret — his ability to shift into a wolf. One of these people is Isabel. At one point, they may have even loved each other. But that feels like a lifetime ago. Now Cole is back. Back in the spotlight. Back in the danger zone. Back in Isabel’s life. Can this sinner be saved?

I love Maggie Stiefvater and I can’t wait to read this book!  Here are a couple of quotes from the book:

Quote 1

” I know why you did it.

Yeah?

You just did it so you could say ” I am a werewolf in L.A.” ”

Quote 2

” If we make it through this alive, I’m going to tell you the truth of why.  And this time you had better believe me.

I came back for you, Isabel.”

Best Time Travel Book Ever!

“Time travel isn’t a wonder; it’s an abomination.”

“Loving someone doesn’t ever completely go away.”

“You have to kill him.”
― Cristin Terrill, All Our Yesterdays

All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill is one of the best time travel stories I have ever read. The story is told by the same person, but by two different versions of themselves. You have Marina whom is in high school and has a crush on her best friend James. And then there’s her future self, Em, whom travels back in time with Finn in order to stop the creation of the time machine known as Cassandra. In the future, the Cassandra has brought nothing but pain and despair to the world. It’s a corrupt piece of equipment used for the sole purpose to become more powerful for those that use it.  Em and Finn have traveled back in time numerously, attempting to stop the development of the machine, but to no avail. There is only one thing left for them to try, they must kill it’s creator and stop it from ever being built. All Our Yesterdays is action packed, and extremely thought provoking. Both versions of Marina grow so much in the story, and by the end they are purely inspiring and admirable. Not only does both versions of the girl experience betrayal, over come obstacles, and fall in love, but they also learn how to love themselves.

“I tell her she’s beautiful and perfect and she’s going to be okay.
I tell her she doesn’t need to change herself to fit in with shallow girls or to matter to someone.
I tell her everything I wish I had ever known.

tell her I love her, and I realize as I say it that I love me, too.”

Q: Guess what comes out on Tuesday, July 15th?

16054217

A: The Book of Life, the third and final installment of The All Souls Trilogy written by Deborah Harkness.

In preparation for its release, I’ve decided to reread A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night.  Here’s my teaser Tuesday:

Dr. Diana Bishop is running from the family business and the last name that dates back to the first Salem Witch trials.  Refusing to perform any witchcraft, except on rare occasions (spelling a malfunctioning washer), she calls up a manuscript that leaves her puzzled and brings Daemons, Witches and Vampires calling.  Even stranger is her handsome vampire protector, Mathew.

Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger

 13445306

Soon there will be a giveaway for this very novel! And since it will be a giveaway, I think it only polite to give a teaser! Here’s some segments from the book that I just love!

“The wind is part of who I am, and when I expose my heart to it, I feel it calling me home. The wind is all I need. Over the years, those words have become my mantra, making everything I’ve endured more bearable. But they’re not the only thing lightening my heart.”

“This is who I am.
A fighter.
A guardian.
Stronger than the Stormers.
Stronger than Vane.
Beyond all emotion.
I don’t give in to fear or pity or love. I’m the one in control.”

― Shannon Messenger, Let the Sky Fall

Let the Sky Fall is a whirlwind of a story! It’s cute, filled with adventure, love, and mystery! It’s also very poetic! This unique book tells the tale of Audra and Vane, about elementals and the ability to call up on the wind. A tale of windwalkers and stormers. It’s a very enjoyable book, one I highly recommend! And once you’ve read Audra and Vane’s whirlwind of a story, don’t forget their story continues in Let the Storm Break  which was released March 4th, 2014!

Reboot Teaser

13517455

I’m reading Reboot by Amy Tintera.  It is pretty good so far.  Here are a couple of paragraphs from the book:

” But at the age of twelve, when I woke up in the Dead Room of the hospital 178 minutes after taking three bullets to the chest, I screamed.

I screamed as they branded my wrist with my bar code, my number, and my human name, Wren Connolly.  I screamed as they locked me in a cell, as they escorted me to the shuttle, as they put me in line with the other newly undead former children.  I screamed until I arrived at the Human Advancement and Repopulation  Corporation, or HARC, facility, and they told me screaming meant death.  Acting like I was still a human child meant death.  Disobeying orders meant death.

And then I was silent.”

I hope you enjoyed this excerpt.  Stay tuned for more teasers to come.
