Q: Guess what comes out on Tuesday, July 15th?

16054217

A: The Book of Life, the third and final installment of The All Souls Trilogy written by Deborah Harkness.

In preparation for its release, I’ve decided to reread A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night.  Here’s my teaser Tuesday:

Dr. Diana Bishop is running from the family business and the last name that dates back to the first Salem Witch trials.  Refusing to perform any witchcraft, except on rare occasions (spelling a malfunctioning washer), she calls up a manuscript that leaves her puzzled and brings Daemons, Witches and Vampires calling.  Even stranger is her handsome vampire protector, Mathew.

Reboot by Amy Tintera in Review

“Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders.”

I really liked this book.  I loved the interaction between Wren and Callum and I loved the role reversal in this book.  Wren is the strong one and Callum is the one who needs to be saved.  In this world, sometimes death isn’t the end.  There is a virus called KDH that has killed a lot of people, but it has also caused some of those people to come back to life.  They call it rebooting.  The only problem with this is that they come back very different and humans are afraid of them.  They put them in facilities and turn them into soldiers.  They are basically prisoners and have no life that the facility doesn’t allow them.  Wren has been in a HARC facility for five years, ever since she was killed at 12 years of age and rebooted.  She has the least human characteristics of all the reboots at the facility.  She was dead for 178 minutes before she rebooted.   A new group of reboots has been brought into the facility for training and among them is Callum.  He was only dead for 22 minutes and is very human like and full of life.  He is not at all cut out to be a reboot.  Wren decides to train him and gets caught up in his charm.  The other reboots think that she doesn’t feel anything, but she is just better at hiding it.  Callum breaks down all of her walls and it comes to the point where she just can’t lose him, even if the leaders of the HARC facility want him gone.

I would recommend this book to others and I will definitely read the sequel.  I would give it four out of five stars.

Unleashed Cover Reveal!

Here’s the cover to Sophie Jordan’s sequel of Uninvited!!!

Book Synopsis:

What if the worst thing you ever did was unforgivable?

Davy’s world fell apart after she tested positive for Homicidal Tendency Syndrome. She was expelled from her school, dumped by her boyfriend, abandoned by friends, and shipped off to a camp that turns HTS carriers into soldiers. Davy may have escaped, but the damage has already been done. The unthinkable has happened. Now, even worse than having everyone else see her as a monster is the knowledge that they may have been right about her all along. Because Davy has killed. On the run from government agents, Davy is rescued by Caden, the charismatic leader of an underground group of rebels. Despite Caden’s assurances that the Resistance is made up of carriers like her, Davy isn’t sure she can trust them. Then again, she doesn’t even know if she can trust herself . . . or her growing feelings for Caden. But if she doesn’t belong with Caden and his followers, is there anywhere she can call home?

Beautiful cover isn’t it? I’ve been anxiously awaiting for the sequel to Uninvited! I met Sophie Jordan in the spring and she’s such an amazing author! Uninvited is about a girl named Davy whom is popular and has the perfect life, perfect boyfriend, and perfect friends. She has a full ride scholarship to Julliard and is an exemplary musician. Her world comes crashing down when her test results come back positive for Homicidal Tendency Syndrome. Because of HTS she is uninvited from the school she currently goes to. Davy goes from having it all to having pretty much nothing. Her new school is quite different from the last and since she has the HTS she learns in a secured room with other students whom have HTS from a teacher that really doesn’t care about the students or what they do in his classroom. Davy, and others whom have HTS, becomes targets for violence and are forced into violent situations. The book is intense and deeply thought provoking. The characters are so complex, and you really feel something for Davy as she suffers and endures all her trials. If you haven’t read Uninvited yet you must do so before the sequel comes out!  And make sure you add Unleashed to your Goodreads!

Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger

Soon there will be a giveaway for this very novel! And since it will be a giveaway, I think it only polite to give a teaser! Here’s some segments from the book that I just love!

“The wind is part of who I am, and when I expose my heart to it, I feel it calling me home. The wind is all I need. Over the years, those words have become my mantra, making everything I’ve endured more bearable. But they’re not the only thing lightening my heart.”

“This is who I am.
A fighter.
A guardian.
Stronger than the Stormers.
Stronger than Vane.
Beyond all emotion.
I don’t give in to fear or pity or love. I’m the one in control.”

― Shannon Messenger, Let the Sky Fall

Let the Sky Fall is a whirlwind of a story! It’s cute, filled with adventure, love, and mystery! It’s also very poetic! This unique book tells the tale of Audra and Vane, about elementals and the ability to call up on the wind. A tale of windwalkers and stormers. It’s a very enjoyable book, one I highly recommend! And once you’ve read Audra and Vane’s whirlwind of a story, don’t forget their story continues in Let the Storm Break  which was released March 4th, 2014!

Reboot Teaser

I’m reading Reboot by Amy Tintera.  It is pretty good so far.  Here are a couple of paragraphs from the book:

” But at the age of twelve, when I woke up in the Dead Room of the hospital 178 minutes after taking three bullets to the chest, I screamed.

I screamed as they branded my wrist with my bar code, my number, and my human name, Wren Connolly.  I screamed as they locked me in a cell, as they escorted me to the shuttle, as they put me in line with the other newly undead former children.  I screamed until I arrived at the Human Advancement and Repopulation  Corporation, or HARC, facility, and they told me screaming meant death.  Acting like I was still a human child meant death.  Disobeying orders meant death.

And then I was silent.”

I hope you enjoyed this excerpt.  Stay tuned for more teasers to come.
